Hi, I’m Raye Ann.
I create one-of-one pyrography artwork guided by artistic vision and rooted in intention. Each piece translates identity, story, and meaning into work that is meant to be kept, lived with, and passed on.
My process is deliberate. The medium demands it. Wood burning builds depth through patience, precision, and an attention to detail that cannot be rushed. The result is work that reflects what matters most to the people it represents.
I came to pyrography seven years ago, drawn to a medium that rewards stillness and care. What began as a search for something meditative became a practice defined by intention: using fire to reveal depth, character, and beauty in natural wood.
My subjects range from wildlife and the natural world to literary scenes and landscapes that carry personal meaning. What connects them is narrative. Every piece tells a story, and the wood itself plays a role in that telling. Live edges, natural bark, organic shapes. I choose each piece of wood for how it will participate in the composition, not just support it.
The pieces I create now carry a depth and refinement that only comes with years of sustained practice. Each one is created once, for one story, and never reproduced.
From wood to art
Every piece follows the same intentional process.
Step 01
Sourcing Wood
Each piece begins with carefully selected wood. Live edges, natural bark, grain patterns, and the shape of the slab all factor into the choice. The wood is not a surface. It is part of the composition.
Step 02
Design
Before burning begins, I spend time with reference materials, composition, and how the subject will interact with the wood's natural grain and shape. This is where intention takes shape.
Step 03
Burning
Using specialized tools at varying temperatures, I build depth through countless layers of detail. A single piece can take 30 to 60 hours or more. Each line is deliberate. Each shadow is considered.
Step 04
Detail Work
I refine shadows, add texture, and bring forward the subtle tonal variations that give the piece life. This stage requires the most focus and the most patience.
Step 05
Finishing
A hand-rubbed natural oil finish protects the wood while enhancing its warmth and character. The piece is built to last for generations.
"Art should hold meaning, not just beauty. Every piece is guided by intention, never rushed, never replicated. This is work meant to last."
